gardening essentials
Good garden designs are a fantastic way to beautify your home. A well designed garden complements and enhances the style and character of your home. Ideally, a garden design should suit your lifestyle and be able to adapt thereto as the years progress. This means that it should be beautiful all year round, easy to access and, most importantly, that garden maintenance should not be a dreaded chore.
Deciding on a good landscaping design can be quite difficult - there are simply so many options when it comes to garden layout. If you are new to gardening you will find that consulting an expert can do wonders. These professionals know their flower supports from their trellises and will be able to assess your garden space and advise you on how best to use it.
It is, however, helpful to make a few decisions before you consult an expert. For instance - would you like a large, perennial garden, or would you rather stick to small, herbaceous plants that are useful in cooking and home remedies? Other things you should consider include the following:
- Where would you like your garden’s focal point to be?
- Are there any existing plants in the garden that you would like to rehabilitate?
- Where do you want the ‘bones’ of your garden? (The ‘bones’ of a garden can be defined as the outlining foundation, with trees, structures, paths and such, that form the basic outline/structure of the garden.)
- How would you like to approach your flowerbed edging? Do you prefer an economical edging solution such as pebbles or crushed oyster shells, or would you rather like brick, stone or decorative edging? Flower bed edging can help keep your garden neat, and can keep lawn grass from invading. Edging also keeps mulch in your flower bed where it belongs instead of allowing it run off through erosion caused by rain and watering.
As soon as you have these basic questions answered you can proceed with your garden design, safe in the knowledge that you have the essentials sorted out. Happy planting!
